Half Man. Half Machine. All Hers.
Rage,
the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals—kill all
of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The
warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes
that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.
Until he meets Joan.
Joan,
the battle station’s first female engineer, has one goal—survive long
enough to help the big sexy cyborg plotting to kill her. Rage might not
trust her but he wants her. She sees the passion in his eyes, the caring
in his battle-worn hands, the gruff emotion in his voice.
When Joan
survives the unthinkable, Rage’s priorities are tested. Is there enough
room in this cyborg’s heart for both love and revenge?
I
was super excited to get stuck in to Releasing Rage by Cynthia Sax! As we all
know, she is one of my favorite authors of all time, and I was excited that she
was releasing a book by herself.
Before
we jump in to the book, I would like to address the cover! While I would
normally say “Never judge a book by its cover” in this case I would say do! As
the book, IS as beautiful as the cover. BUT, and that’s a big BUT peeps! The
book does tell a graphic tale of abuse and rape. Not in detail mind you! But the
implication is there. It’s an important part of the story, and it is crucial that
it is told.
Now
let’s move on to the actual story. Cadet
Joan Tull is working on a spaceship for the Humanoid Alliance, after leaving
her home planet of Agri. She is the only female on the ship and the men hated
her and verbally degrade her at every point. She was supposed to be there as an
engineer for the Cyborgs, but the women hating Commander sent her to work in
the trash disposal area.
That
is, until one of the Cyborgs killed his engineer and the Commander saw it as a
way to rid his ship of Joan. Even though Joan was warned by someone she thought
of as a friend, NOT to take the position, Joan did anyway, even when she found
out the Cyborg killed her predecessor.
C899321
or Rage is he is known, finally killed his human engineer after many cycles of
abuse and is determined to kill all of the humans and escape with his fellow
cyborgs. But now he has been told that is female is his new engineer and
although she seems different, Rage distrusts her more, even when the other
Humans harm her, he is skeptical.
But
slowly Rage begins to trust Joan, especially when she feeds him information to
escape. But when it most counts for Joan to know the truth, Rage still withholds
the cyborgs plan. But Joan knows she is going to die at the hands of her fellow
cadets and Commander, so she says goodbye, happy in the knowledge that Rage is
safe. But that is not the plan and you are left wondering if Rage will get back
in enough time to save her.
WOW!
What a book! I am not normally one for SCI-FI romances, but to me, this is less
about the Sci-Fi aspect and more about the relationship between Joan and the
Cyborgs.
What
you realize when you read the book, is that I have barely scrapped the surface
with my description above! And that this book opens up a world of stories yet
to come and you cannot help but fall in love with each of the characters.
The
writing, characters and plot for Releasing Rage is spellbinding! It truly sucked
me in and I felt like I became Joan Tull and trust me, I cried SO hard with
this book, I literally went through a whole box of Kleenex!
I
give Releasing Rage 10 out of 10, for sheer brilliance!
